At The Collective Mental Health & Wellness, we believe the role of community in healing, uplifting, and bridging the gap of inequity is absolutely imperative. Culturally competent, anti-oppressive, anti-racist mental health care often is only a privilege that some can access, and not the norm. In our commitment to upending systemic oppression through the role of our Collective Community, creating a pricing model that is equitable needed to be at the forefront. Taking into account folks from multiple economic backgrounds, and at its root is seeking to address systemic inequalities of class in our culture.
The mental health field and many of its professionals have historically been complicit when it comes to perpetuating harm, not excluding creating financial barriers for those seeking affirming and nurturing mental health care - making it even more difficult for Black, Indigenous, queer, and others of the Global Majority to find accessible, safe, and empowering therapeutic care.
In that vein, we have created several ways to offset the cost of care so that the largest amount of people can have access:
Sliding Scale - The sliding scale is a tool that allows for a service to be obtained at multiple price points based on the circumstances of the purchaser. For a sliding scale to work it relies on the principles of truthfulness, respect for complexity, and accountability. We do not ask for income verification. We trust our clients and folks we work with to be honest. Community thrives when accountability is a central value, because that is where trust grows and the deepest work can be done.
Since the sliding scale is a tool of accountability, it is an ongoing conversation and we remain committed to helping folks figure out how to talk about their own economic experiences.
The Collective Community Fund, which is an opportunity for those who are well-resourced and have more expendable income to pay forward the experience and benefit of therapy for those in our community who we can uplift, collectively.
